ON DEATH OF KAPILA CHANDRASENA NO DEFINITE REASON-MINISTER

No definite statement can be made on Kapila Chandrasena

Colombo, May 8 (Daily Mirror) – Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said that no definite statement can be made at this stage regarding the death of former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said a conclusive statement could only be issued after the post-mortem examination is completed.

“Investigations into the death have already commenced. The post-mortem examination is currently underway. After that, the Judicial Medical Officers will clarify the matter. The police have launched all possible investigations into the incident,” he said.

Responding to a question on whether the incident could have been prevented if Chandrasena had been arrested when a warrant was issued yesterday, the Minister said the police had already taken steps regarding the matter.

“The police became aware of the situation only yesterday evening. They would not have expected such an incident to occur overnight. They may have planned to arrest him the following morning. He was a person who had previously been released from police custody, and there was a court order in place. You should seek clarification from the Inspector General of Police regarding that matter,” he said.
