– For the first time in Sri Lanka a Women’s Sub Fertility Medical Unit was established yesterday at Karapitiya German-Sri Lanka Friendship Women’s Hospital.

Addressing the ceremony Gynecologist In Charge of the Women’s Sub Fertility Medical Unit Dr. Deepani Jasinghe said the new segment of the hospital would immensely benefit the woman in the Southern Province and several other areas. She pointed out that it is the first Women’s Sub Fertility Medical Unit in Sri Lanka.

The programme included the opening of a Gynecological Oncology Surgical Unit as well.

Medical Specialist Dr. Kelum Jayasinge is in charge of the Gynecological Oncology Surgical Unit.

He said at present a maximum of 15 Gynecological surgeries could be performed a day with the available facilities and that it could be increased to a larger proportion after the opening of the new surgical unit. He said about 100 patients from the Southern Province and Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces seek treatment at the Gynecological Oncology Unit almost every day.
