– Two suspects have been arrested by the Thalathuoya Police in connection with an alleged act of cruelty against a cat, footage of which recently went viral on social media.The investigation was launched after members of the Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC) Sri Lanka lodged a formal complaint with the Thalathuoya Police on August 8, 2026.Following investigations, police arrested the two suspects in the Athulgama area of Thalathuoya. The suspects, aged 18 and 19, are residents of the area.

During preliminary questioning, the suspects reportedly told police that the incident captured in the video had taken place approximately one month ago.Police are preparing to present the facts before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court and produce the suspects before the judiciary under Section 411 of the Penal Code of Sri Lanka, Section 63(c) of the Police Ordinance, and relevant laws relating to animal cruelty.
