Low-pressure area forms near Sri Lanka; rough seas and strong winds expected

Colombo, May 11 (Daily Mirror) – The Meteorology Department has issued an advisory warning that the atmospheric disturbance over the Bay of Bengal has developed into a low-pressure area in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.
According to the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology, the low-pressure area was located near 10.1N and 82.5E at the time of issuance.
The department said the prevailing showery conditions across the island are expected to continue due to the system.
It further warned that strong winds and rough sea conditions could occur in both deep and shallow sea areas around the island, as well as in the deep sea areas of the Bay of Bengal.
Authorities have advised the public and the fishing and naval communities to remain vigilant regarding future weather updates.
