An inmate has died after falling from a building at Welikada Prison.

Prisons Media Spokesman and Commissioner of Prisons A.C. Gajanayake stated that the deceased was an inmate who had been sentenced to death over the killing of former Member of Parliament Amarakeerthi Athukorala and had lodged an appeal against the sentence.The deceased was a 29-year-old resident of the Pasyala area.

Investigations into the incident are under way.
