Stent shortage – Galle Hospital denies Sajith Premadasa’s claims

The National Hospital Galle has refuted reports claiming a shortage of stents at the hospital, following statements made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.In a statement, the hospital said cardiac procedures, including stenting and angiograms, are being carried out as usual without any disruption. It also noted that adequate stocks of pre-dilatation and post-dilatation balloons are available.
The hospital stated that a new angiogram machine provided by the Ministry of Health is currently being installed at the facility.
It further said that the Cancer Unit is scheduled to receive several new medical devices this year, including a Linear Accelerator, a Brachytherapy machine, a Mammogram machine, and a CT Scanner. Meanwhile, steps are also being taken to procure a second MRI scanner and a DSA machine to enhance stroke diagnosis services in the Southern Province, the statement added.
