PHIs to launch island-wide trade union action today
In a letter to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media dated August 23, the union said the action follows Migasdeniya’s transfer, allegedly in connection with his opposition to illegal activities at the Health Office of Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.Accordingly, from 8.00 a.m. today, all Public Health Inspectors and Administrative Public Health Inspectors across the country will suspend the submission of all types of data and reports to the administration, according to the union.
The association also announced the suspension of all data-system restoration activities and warned that data not received during the trade union action would not subsequently be restored to the system. The PHIA has demanded that Migasdeniya’s transfer be cancelled and that a fair investigation be conducted into the allegations raised in its previous correspondence with the Ministry. The union has also strongly opposed what it described as attempts to reduce the approved cadre of Public Health Inspectors at the Colombo Port Health Office and the Katunayake Airport Health Office.n The association said it remains willing to support a fair investigation and engage in discussions with the authorities to resolve the issues.
