TRAIN SERVICES DISRUPTED IN CHILAW OWING TO FLASH FLOODS

Flash floods disrupt Puttalam railway line; train services restricted to Chilaw


Train services on the Puttalam railway line have been restricted up to Chilaw Railway Station due to flooding caused by adverse weather conditions, the Railways Department announced today.

According to the Department, several sections of the railway track in the Niladi area have gone under water following heavy rains, while water levels in the area continue to rise.As a result, train operations on the Puttalam line will be limited to Chilaw from this evening and throughout tomorrow.Railway authorities said the Puttalam office train and all other trains operating on the line today will run only between Colombo Fort and Chilaw. Trains scheduled to operate tomorrow morning will commence their journeys from Chilaw Railway Station.The Department said further decisions regarding train operations between Chilaw and Puttalam will be announced depending on the weather situation and flood conditions.

Passengers using the Puttalam line have been advised to check for updates before travelling.
