An investigation has been ordered into 02 persons who had filed bail applications before the High Court on behalf of around 45 suspects in remand custody over drug trafficking offences.Colombo High Court Judge Lal Ranasinghe Bandara has ordered the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to initiate the investigation and to submit a detailed report in this regard.

The individuals in question are Nimal Karunathilake and Anthony Alexander, who are residents of Wellampitiya and Kotahena respectively.The order was issued after considering reports submitted by the police stating that the 02 individuals allegedly appear to be doing this as a profession.The CID Director was further ordered to conduct a detailed investigation and submit a report on the fact that bail applications for 45 suspects remanded on drug-related offenses had been filed through the same lawyer.

One reason for the suspicion had arisen from facts revealed in court regarding a bail application filed on behalf of a suspect remanded over drug trafficking case.
