Fake website misuses Foreign Bureau name to collect job seekers’ personal data

– The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has warned the public about a fake website that is illegally using the Bureau’s name, official logo and photographs to collect personal information from people seeking employment opportunities in Israel. The Bureau said the fraudulent website is being circulated through social media and is designed to make users believe that it is an official SLBFE website or an authorized online recruitment process offering free job opportunities in Israel.According to the Bureau, those who access the fake link are directed to an online application form requesting sensitive personal details, including their full name, date of birth, National Identity Card (NIC) number, gender and mobile phone number.

The SLBFE warned that providing such information through an unauthorized website could expose individuals to risks including phishing, identity theft, impersonation, fraudulent data collection, social engineering and misuse of personal information. The Bureau said the scam appears to particularly target young people seeking employment opportunities in Israel. It urged the public, especially Israeli job seekers, not to provide personal information through suspicious websites, links or online application forms.

The SLBFE has already lodged a complaint with the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) regarding the fraudulent activity, while further action is being taken. The Bureau advised the public to rely only on information officially issued by the SLBFE when seeking information about employment opportunities in Israel.
