HEAVY SHOWERS EXPECTED AS LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CONTINUES

Low-pressure system continues to influence weather; Heavy showers expected


– The low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka continues to persist and is being closely monitored for its behavior, development, and movement over the coming hours, the Meteorology Department said.

According to the latest general weather forecast issued at 4.00 p.m. today for the next 36 hours, the prevailing weather system is expected to bring showers or thundershowers at times, along with cloudy skies across several parts of the country.

The department said the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Northern provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, are expected to experience showery conditions. Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely at some locations in these areas.Several spells of showers are also expected in the Anuradhapura District, while a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces may experience showers or thundershowers after 1.00 p.m.The Department has urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
