– National athlete Arunthavarasa Puvitharan of the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club created a new Sri Lanka record in the men’s pole vault event.

The achievement came during the selection trials organised by Sri Lanka Athletics at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex in Diyagama, held in preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.Puvitharan cleared 5.18 metres to surpass the previous national record, which had also been set by him, and establish a new Sri Lanka mark in the event. In the same event, M.H.A. Sandaruwan of the Air Force finished second with a clearance of 4.80m, while H.S.E. Janith, also representing the Air Force, secured third place with 4.60m.
