A weekend newspaper has reported that Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, who was sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour, is expected to be assigned prison duties this week.He is reportedly likely to be assigned to the printing section.Mr Priyankara Jayaratne, who was imprisoned several weeks ago, is also currently working in the printing section.Meanwhile, Ven. Gnanasara Thera was remanded in custody last Monday after being arrested by the police in Kalutara. He was initially placed in the prison’s ‘N’ cell that same day.It is said that MP Namal Rajapaksa had also been held in the same cell and had arranged a place for Ven. Gnanasara Thera to sleep by spreading a bed sheet for him.The two reportedly spent the day talking about various matters, and MP Namal Rajapaksa is said to have offered him his meal the following day.This was reportedly part of a vegetarian meal that had been brought from home for the MP. It is also said to have been among the final few hours during which Ven. Gnanasara Thera wore his robe.
