The government is considering the introduction of a new procedure pertaining to registration of vehicles under which the name of the owner will be displayed on number plates.The matter has been discussed at the recent meeting of the Consultative Committee on Public Transport, an official statement from Parliament said.“The Consultative Committee has focused on increasing government revenue and to cater to the desires of vehicle owners. Therefore, a proposal to issue personalized number plates was looked into at the Consultative Committee. Accordingly, the name of the vehicle owners will be displayed on number plates,” the statement said.

“Consideration of the legal provisions and the security was stressed at the Consultative Committee meeting,” the statement added.

There is a backlog of 958,651 when it comes to the using of number plates.
