MAJIBUR RAHUMAN DISCLOSES GOVERNMENT BROKEN PROMISES

Government’s broken promises

Colombo District MP Mujibur Rahuman (SJB) said in parliament that there were numerous promises the government had made during the election campaign but had failed to fulfil. “They have been talking about what they have done. Let me remind you of some of the things they have not done.“They promised to remove VAT on healthcare. They also promised to remove VAT on school supplies.

During the election campaign, they asked why people should have to pay taxes on food and drink.“They promised to increase the salaries of public sector employees every six months. They said they would provide cars for Rs. 1.4 million and bring down Japanese motorbikes for the people. Now, forget about buying a Japanese motorbike; people cannot even afford a bicycle.“They also promised to provide three-wheelers for Rs. 600,000. None of these promises has been fulfilled.“These are concessions that matter to ordinary people. They also promised to supply fuel at the price at which it is unloaded at the port. Now, we do not even know which minister is receiving that commission.

Meanwhile, fuel prices are going up every month,” the MP said.
