POWER CUTS SCHEDULED ENDS on 23rd

Scheduled power cuts to end from tomorrow

The National System Operator (NSO) has stated that electricity generation at the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai is expected to resume today (Oct. 22).The company has also announced that scheduled power cuts in certain parts of the island will no longer be necessary from tomorrow (Oct. 23), following the interruptions imposed over the past several days.

A significant amount of electricity generation capacity was lost from the national grid after an emergency system failure disrupted operations at the Norochcholai power plant. With 02 generating units already shut down for scheduled maintenance, the sudden shutdown of the remaining unit further disrupted the plant’s overall electricity generation.Under these circumstances, authorities were compelled to restrict electricity supply for several days to maintain the stability of the national power grid.Urgent measures are reportedly being taken to restore operations at the Lakvijaya Power Plant. The Minister of Energy also visited the plant yesterday and held discussions with officials regarding the measures being taken.
