WITH IMF AND ADB INFLOWS RUPEE DEPRECIATION COULD BE MANAGED

The government says the ongoing depreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee can be managed through expected foreign inflows and policy measures.Minister Vijitha Herath said around $700mn from the IMF and $200mn from the ADB are expected in the near future.

 

He said import controls and export earnings are also expected to support foreign exchange stability.The Minister noted that a weaker rupee may increase prices of imported goods and inflationary pressure.
