Colombo, Oct. 29 (Daily Mirror) – The medical report on the suspect who died while in Homagama Police custody has revealed that he had three broken ribs and bleeding in the brain, while police suspect that an assault may have caused his death, Western Province Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Sajeewa Medawatte said.

29-year-old Ishara Harsha Kumara, a resident of Kiriwaththuduwa, died under suspicious circumstances while in the custody of the Homagama Police Station on October 25, 2026.Speaking at a special media briefing held at the Police Media Division, SDIG Medawatte said the man had also sustained head injuries, according to information gathered during the investigation.He said the deceased had been kept at the police crime division for a period before being placed in a cell, and information had been received alleging that an assault took place during that time.However, he said that the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault had not yet been confirmed and that investigations were underway.The SDIG said the medical findings and the outcome of the ongoing investigation would be crucial in establishing the exact cause of death and the circumstances leading to the incident.
