– The membership of the United National Party (UNP) has been restructured to accommodate two special categories, namely the Millennial UNP and the Gen Z UNP, party chairman Wajira Abeywardena said.The representation of these two generations was confirmed by 8th Executive President and UNP leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, at the UNP Working Committee meeting held at the UNP Headquarters “Sirikotha” in Pitakotte.

The Millennium UNP generation represents the age group of 35-40 years. The Gen Z UNP generation includes young men and women born after the year 2000.This is the first time that a political party in Sri Lanka has promoted membership representing two generations in this way, Abeywardena said. Abeywardena said the UNP Green Paper, which includes a 20-year program instead of a 5-year election manifesto, was also discussed at length at the Working Committee meeting.The UNP Chairman further said that the need for all parties to work together under a common consensus and the methodology for that was explained by former Executive President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Working Committee meeting.
