CONDEMNING LTTE ATROCITIES CALL FOR BALANCED REMEMBRANCE- CHAMITH

Chamith Wijesundera calls for balanced remembrance, condemns LTTE atrocities

Colombo, May 20 (Daily Mirror) – SJB Youth Organizer Chamith Wijesundera has called for a balanced approach to remembrance of Sri Lanka’s war-related civilian deaths, warning against any attempt to glorify the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

In a statement posted on X, Wijesundera said it is important to remember innocent civilian lives lost during the conflict and to pursue genuine national reconciliation. However, he stressed that such remembrance “must not serve as a veil” to glorify the LTTE.

He strongly condemned the actions of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, citing the recruitment of child soldiers, suicide bombings, and the assassination of moderate Tamil political leaders who had advocated for peace.

Wijesundera further stated that true healing and justice for the Tamil community require acknowledgment of the “deep scars” left by LTTE violence, and a collective commitment to a united future based on peace rather than the glorification of armed conflict.
