IRD surpasses Rs. one trillion tax revenue milestone

Colombo, May 21 (Daily Mirror) – The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced that it has successfully collected over Rs. one trillion in tax revenue as of May 18, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the country’s fiscal performance.
Issuing a statement, the department said the achievement strengthens Sri Lanka’s financial stability and supports the delivery of public services across the country.
The Commissioner General of the Inland Revenue Department, Rukdevi P. H. Fernando, expressed appreciation to taxpayers for their contribution to this milestone.
“I am pleased to inform you that the Inland Revenue Department proudly marks the achievement of collecting over rupees one trillion tax revenue as of May 18, 2026, strengthening the country’s financial stability and public services,” she said in the statement.
She also extended gratitude to citizens who fulfilled their tax obligations directly and indirectly, noting that public compliance played a key role in reaching the record revenue figure.
