IRRIGATION AUTHORITIES CONFIRM WATER LEVELS IN RESERVOIRS RETURNING TO NORMAL

Reservoir water levels returning to normal: Irrigation Dept.

– Water levels in reservoirs across the country have returned to normal, according to the Department of Irrigation.Director of Irrigation (Hydrology & Disaster Management) L. S. Sooriyabandara said data from monitoring stations show that no reservoir has reached flood level at present. He said the highest rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours—between 50 and 100 mm—was reported from several major catchment areas. Rainfall in the range of 50–100 mm was observed in the Kelani and Kalu Ganga basins, while around 50 mm was recorded in the Gin Ganga, Nilwala Ganga and Attanagalu Oya basins.

However, Sooriyabandara noted that these rainfall levels are not sufficient to cause a significant rise in river levels and urged the public not to be unduly alarmed.
