C- Northern Province Governor has refuted social media posts which claimed that the Governor of the Northern Province has issued a ban on the offering of ‘Dansalas’ and the decoration of premises during the forthcoming Vesak festival season in the Northern Province.Governor Nagalingam Vethanayahan said in a statement that the claim is entirely false and completely without foundation.

He said no such decision has been taken by the Governor’s Secretariat, and that absolutely no discussions have taken place in this regard.”It is evident that such fabricated reports are being deliberately created and spread by certain quarters with the malicious intent of undermining the longstanding ethnic and religious harmony that prevails among our communities, and of sowing confusion and discord among the people,” the statement added.

The Governor said a formal complaint has already been lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the despicable and malice-driven social media campaign.”I therefore kindly urge everyone not to believe such baseless and false reports, and to remain vigilant against such disinformation. I appeal to all, with affection, to continue to uphold and cherish the ethnic and religious harmony and peace that define our shared life together,” he said in the statement.
