MOBILE WET CLINIC IN MANNAR TO AID FLOOD HOT FARM ANIMALS

Three-day mobile vet clinic in Mannar to aid flood-hit farm animals

– The Government Veterinary Officers’ Association will launch a three-day mobile clinic in Mannar starting tomorrow to treat farm animals affected by the recent floods caused by Cyclone Dithwa, Association President Dr. Upul Ranjith Kumara said.He told the Daily Mirror that the initiative aims to support farmers whose livestock have been left vulnerable following the severe flooding in the district.

The program is being carried out with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation, the Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH), and the Government Veterinary Association.“Eight teams will be deployed to different villages in Mannar to locate affected farms. Residents are encouraged to bring their animals for treatment. Announcements will be made in the area to inform the public,” Dr. Kumara said.

He added that 250 metric tones of cattle feed have already been dispatched to Mannar, as many animals have lost access to grazing land due to the floods. The shortage of pasture has created a major food crisis for livestock in the district.

“This stock of cattle feed will help farmers keep their animals nourished until the situation improves,” he said.
