– Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa has been granted bail by the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court following his arrest earlier today.

Weerawansa was taken into custody this morning after arriving at the Thalangama Police Station to record a statement.Police had earlier issued summons directing him to appear before the Thalangama Police Station today after he failed to do so yesterday, in connection with allegations of obstructing police duties at the National War Memorial in Battaramulla.

The incident relates to a tense situation reported on May 18, when a group led by former MP Weerawansa allegedly attempted to enter the National War Memorial during rehearsals for a Victory Day commemoration event, leading to a confrontation with police.
