Police launch islandwide security Plan for Hajj festival

-Sri Lanka Police have implemented a special islandwide security plan in view of the Hajj Festival, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, which falls on May 28, 2026.
The Inspector General of Police has instructed all police stations to take necessary steps to ensure the safety of Muslim devotees participating in religious activities.Police said officers will be deployed at major mosques and surrounding areas where special prayers will be held.A special traffic plan will also be implemented to reduce congestion around mosques and facilitate the movement of worshippers.However, mobile, foot, bicycle and motorcycle patrols will also be conducted in areas with large Muslim populations to strengthen security, police said.
Intelligence officers will also be deployed to gather information and support security measures.The Police have urged the public to cooperate with security arrangements and follow instructions issued by officers.The public has also been asked to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or via the 119/118 emergency hotlines.
