Minor flood warning issued for eight areas
A minor flood warning has been issued for eight Divisional Secretariat divisions along the Mahaweli River due to rainfall in upstream catchments, authorities stated on 18 December.Possible flooding is forecast over the next 48 hours in Kinniya, Muttur, Kantale, Seruvila, Welikanda, Lankapura, Thamankaduwa and Dimbulagala.There is also a risk of inundation along the Batticaloa–Polonnaruwa Road near Gallella and access routes to Somawathiya Raja Maha Vihara.
Devotees have been advised to avoid travel to the area, while residents are urged to remain vigilant.
