Coal ship that should be rejected, anchored off Norochcholai – Free Lawyers

The Free Lawyers’ organization alleges that a substandard coal ship, which should have been completely rejected, is anchored in Sri Lanka’s maritime boundary off Norochcholai. In a statement, the organization says that the quality of the coal onboard the ship MV JOSCO YONGZHOU, is at a level that should have been “completely rejected” as per the relevant tender’s LCC reject values for the coal. The organization states they are of the belief that no unloading or payment be made until a formal investigation is completed by the Lanka Coal Company (Pvt) Ltd, the National Audit Office (NAO), and the relevant technical committees.

They have also called for inspections by parliamentary oversight committees and the NAO, as well as an urgent inquiry by the Presidential Commission appointed to investigate alleged irregularities in coal imports.
