Police recover rare Mini Uzi-style firearm hidden in Colombo cemetery

Police have recovered a locally manufactured Mini Uzi-style automatic firearm, believed to be the first weapon of its kind seized in Sri Lanka, from a public cemetery in Colombo. The weapon was discovered during an operation based on information obtained from the interrogation of alleged underworld figure “Mahawatte Chamara,” who was recently deported from Dubai and is currently being detained by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB).
During the search, officers also recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and three rounds of ammunition concealed within the cemetery grounds.Investigators have determined that the Mini Uzi-style firearm was manufactured locally. Police said that although intelligence reports had previously suggested the existence of such weapons in the country, no law enforcement agency had ever recovered one before.
Further investigations are continuing.
