The Police Media Division has issued a clarification regarding social media reports circulating over the arrest of a musician in Chavakachcheri, for performing songs promoting the banned LTTE organization.The statement notes that the 24-year old suspect from Udayanagar, Kilinochchi, was arrested on June 02 for performing the two songs in question during a musical concert held on May 31. The suspect had later uploaded an edited version of the performance to his social media in a manner that glorified and promoted the LTTE, the police adds.

After being produced before the Chavakachcheri Magistrate’s Court on June 03, the suspect has been remanded until June 17.eanwhile, the police also says that social media claims suggesting a blanket prohibition on musical performances at entertainment events are false and misleading.
