– The former Registrar of Welimada Magistrate’s Court who had been arrested by Welimada Police in connection with the alleged theft of case productions was produced before Welimada Magistrate R.A.C.P Amaratunga and remanded till May 18.

He is alleged to have stolen a log of sandalwood and handed it over to court as a case production. The suspect Eranga Sajith Ranasinghe has already been under interdiction in connection with a bribery allegation. An office peon of the magistrate’s court had been remanded earlier on suspicion of aiding and abetting the theft.Police told court that the main suspect former Courts Registrar had transported the log by trishaw with the help of the office peon from the courts premises to a wood worker and turned out a Cheithiya which has been seized during investigations.
