Ravi pleads guilty to lesser charge, Seeks withdrawal of drunk-driving charge

Home » DRUNK DRIVING CASE RAVI PLEADS WITHDRAWAL AS A LESSER CHARGE

Public Security Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne pleaded guilty to failing to prevent an accident when he was arraigned in the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court on Thursday in relation to a 2023 road accident on Marine Drive in Wellawatte.
When the case was taken up before Magistrate Kanchana Niranjala Silva,
Mr Seneviratne’s lawyer, Chandana Perera, told the court that the second and third charges — reckless driving and driving under the influence of liquor — could not be maintained and therefore requested their withdrawal.
Wellawatte Police, which is prosecuting the case, did not raise any objection to withdrawing the second and third charges.
After considering the matter, the magistrate fixed the case for June 26 to deliver her order on sentencing for the charge to which Mr. Seneviratne pleaded guilty. She will also rule on the defence lawyer’s request to withdraw the other two charges.
