Deputy Minister of Environment – Anton Jayakody has announced that a Gazette notification will be issued soon, on the provision of providing tamed elephants for cultural events such as peraheras.Speaking in Parliament today (Aug. 21), he clarified that the government has not taken any measure hindering the provision of tame elephants for the Dalada Perahera or any other religious / cultural event.The formulation of a new gazette is being done in consultation with the Ministry of Buddhasasana and subject experts, and it is in its final stages, the Deputy Minister added.
