The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has said that it is closely monitoring investigations into the alleged child abuse incident involving a minor girl in Anuradhapura, which has recently sparked public concern and controversy.In a statement issued by NCPA Director of Planning and Information Shanika Malalgoda, the authority said it has been carrying out regulatory activities from the time the incident was reported to ensure that legal procedures are being properly implemented.
The NCPA highlighted that it remains prepared to monitor whether investigations are being conducted in a manner that safeguards the rights of the child and ensures justice is delivered. The authority also said it is ready to take any further action deemed necessary in the best interests of the child.The statement further clarified that the NCPA has not faced any obstacles in carrying out its responsibilities related to protecting the girl’s rights and ensuring the proper implementation of relevant laws.
The authority urged the public to avoid unnecessary panic and unrest, noting that such reactions could potentially hinder the judicial process.
The NCPA also assured that the victim has been placed in a special care centre and that measures have been taken to ensure her safety.
Reaffirming its mandate, the authority stated that ensuring children are protected from all forms of violence remains its duty and responsibility.
