Permission granted to detain and question Batuwatte Chamara

Manoj Suranga Liyanage, alias Batuwatte Chamara, who had allegedly been hiding in Dubai for a prolonged period as a suspect in several organised crimes, was yesterday (15) named as the 43rd suspect in the murder of Ganemulle Sanjeewa.
Asanga S. Bodaragama, Colombo Chief Magistrate, granted permission to the Colombo Crimes Division to detain and question him for 90 days.After considering a request made by the Colombo Crimes Division through a further report, the Chief Magistrate also granted permission to name Osman Gunasekara, who had been arrested and detained for questioning over allegedly supplying the firearm used in the murder of Ganemulle Sanjeewa, as the 44th suspect in the case.
These orders were issued when the complaint against the main suspects in the murder of Ganemulle Sanjeewa, including Mandinu Pathmasiri, Ishara Sewwandi, attorney-at-law Thamara Kumari Aberathna of Maha Bodhi Mawatha, Kadawatha, and Samindu Dilshan Piyumanga, was taken up before court.When the case was called, suspect attorney-at-law Thamara Kumari Aberathna was produced before court by prison officials.
