Taxpayers granted grace period to file Income Tax Return
– The Inland Revenue Department has further extended the deadline for all registered income tax payers to submit their Income Tax Returns for the Assessment Year 2024/2025 till December 31.The deadline was earlier extended till December 8 due to the influence of the cyclonic storm ‘Ditwah’ and the extreme weather conditions that affected many parts of Sri Lanka.The Department said if the taxpayers submit their Returns of Income for the Year of Assessment 2024/2025 on or before December 31, 2025, they will not be subjected to any legal consequences for late submission of Tax Returns, such as imposition of penalties, issuing assessments or institution of criminal proceedings.
The Inland Revenue Department requests all taxpayers who were not able to furnish Returns of Income so far to make use of this grace period to file their Returns.
