– The Prisons Department has announced that special arrangements have been made to allow inmates to meet visitors in connection with the Hajj and Vesak festivals, which fall on May 28 and May 30, respectively.Accordingly, prison institutions across the island will facilitate inmate visits on May 28 and 30, under strict adherence to health guidelines and prison regulations.

The department said that food and sweets brought by relatives for inmates will be permitted in quantities sufficient for one prisoner per visit.Commissioner of Prisons (Media Spokesperson) A.C. Gajanayake said that the arrangements have been made to enable inmates to mark the religious occasions while ensuring security and health protocols are maintained within all prison facilities.
