Young woman who digitally created another young woman’s nude images fined
– The Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama yesterday imposed a compensation order of Rs. 50,000 and a fine of Rs. 5,000 on a young girl, after she pleaded guilty to digitally altering several photographs of a young woman from the Colombo area into obscene images and circulating them on the internet.The Magistrate ordered the accused to pay a fine of Rs. 2,500 and compensation of Rs. 25,000 for each of the two separate charges, extracting the victim’s images from Facebook and digitally manipulating them into obscene images and distributing those images online.Accordingly, the magistrate also ordered the suspect to pay Rs. 50,000 as compensation to the aggrieved woman.The suspect informed court that she pleaded guilty to the charges when the case was recalled yesterday
The Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department had filed charges against the suspect following a complaint lodged by the victim, a resident of Colombo.It was also revealed in court that the suspect is a former student of a Colombo girls’ school and is currently sitting the GCE Advanced Level examination as a private candidate.
