– It has been revealed that fabricated news content using the name, photographs, and video footage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya is being widely circulated on social media platforms, alongside the unauthorized use of official logos of various media institutions and news websites.According to authorities, certain groups have been producing and distributing manipulated videos designed to falsely depict the Prime Minister expressing specific views. In addition, fake social media posts featuring her images are also being shared, misleading the public on matters relating to business opportunities, employment prospects, the country’s economy, and tax policies.

The Prime Minister’s Media Division said that much of this misleading content has been generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other advanced digital tools. The public has been strongly urged not to be deceived by such misinformation and to remain vigilant when engaging with content circulating online.The Media Division further warned that the creation and dissemination of such false news particularly when it damages the reputation of the Government and violates the privacy and integrity of the Prime Minister constitutes a punishable offence under the law.
