Deniyaya schools to stay closed on 11th and 12th due to viral flu

– Authorities have decided to extend the closure of four schools within the Deniyaya Education Zone due to a rapidly spreading viral flu among the student.
Nishaka Hettigoda, the Zonal Director of Education for Deniyaya, said that the schools, Deniyaya Central College, Deniyaya Rajapaksa Maha Vidyalaya, St. Matthew’s Bilingual School, and Pallegama Siddhartha Vidyalaya, will remain closed on the 11th and 12th.
These schools had previously been shut down on the 7th and 8th of this month as an initial precautionary measure. However, after monitoring the health situation and the continued spread of the illness, education and health authorities determined that a further period of closure was necessary to break the chain of infection.
Southern Provincial Education Secretary N. K. R. Pathirana said that this extension was implemented strictly under the guidance of health experts.
