Defense Ministry gives nod on Chinese ship
The Ministry of Defense has given the green light for the Chinese Research/Survey Vessel Shi Yan 6 to dock at the ports of Sri Lanka.
The approval was granted following a request made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency, also known as NARA.
Chinese Research/Survey Vessel Shi Yan 6 will reach Sri Lanka on October 25, and will be involved in research operations in the Sea of Sri Lanka for a period of 17 days.
Sri Lanka Navy said that the Shi Yan 6 will be reaching Sri Lanka for joint research operations with the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency, also known as NARA.However NARA said the vessels’ arrival is part of an agreement reached with the Ruhuna University of Sri Lanka.
This is not the first time that the Chinese Research/Survey Vessel Shi Yan 6 will be visiting Sri Lanka.The Shi Yan 6, Research and Survey Vessel had previously visited Sri Lanka on the 20th of April 2022, and remained in the Sea of Sri Lanka for a total of ten days.
Over a past few years, a large number of vessels had reached Sri Lankan ports, and a majority of them are Chinese research and survey vessels.
These vessels include the Shi Yan 6, Shi Yan 1, Shi Yan 3, Xiang Yang Hong 3, Xiang Yang Hong 18, Xiang Yang Hong 1, Xiang Yang Hong 6, and Xiang Yang Hong 19.

Another two persons have been arrested in Bangalore, India for allegedly aiding three Sri Lankans who are accused of committing murders, to leave overseas with forged passports.
The New Indian Express said continuing the investigation into the arrest of three Sri Lankan nationals involved in murder cases, the Indian Central Crime Branch (CCB) team arrested two suspects who were allegedly funding them and making arrangements to send them to a foreign country on Indian passports.
The arrested have been identified as a resident of Chennai, and a resident of Vivekangar in Bangalore.
Police have recovered 5.7 million Indian rupees in cash from the resident of Chennai, who is alleged to be a drug dealer while 65 passports were uncovered from the second individual who is a passport agent.
The CCB police had arrested three Sri Lankans from an apartment in Bangalore and investigations had revealed that two of them were involved in contract killings in Sri Lanka and one had five murder cases against him, while the other had four. P
olice noted that the accused were arrested based on the information provided by an individual, who sheltered the Sri Lankan nationals in the city.
Minister of Defence of India Rajnath Singh is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on the 2nd and 3rd of September.
Several media reports emerged on Friday (25) regarding the Indian Defence Minister’s visit to Sri Lanka.
According to the media reports Indian Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh is due to hold discussions with the Sri Lankan President and his Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayaka.
The reports stated that the Indian Defence Minister will also visit Trincomalee, where he will inspect the fuel pipeline system to be built between the two countries.
During President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s recent visit to India, proposals were presented regarding a fuel pipeline system and a bridge connecting the two countries.
A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the two countries, related to the Trincomalee district development plan.

The Ministry of Health said, 50 more types of drugs that are in short supply will be imported within the next two weeks.
Accordingly, the ministry stated that the shortage of medicine will be controlled to some extent.
Currently, there is a shortage of 230 medicines in the medical supply sector.
The ministry added, all those medicines will be ordered and imported immediately.
The importation of essential drugs is facilitated under the Indian loan assistance program.
