CIABOC probes Nandana Gunathilake and Udaya Gammanpila over alleged contempt
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has initiated an investigation into former Members of Parliament Nandana Gunathilake and Udaya Gammanpila following a complaint that the duo committed contempt against the commission.
According to State television ITN, the inquiry was launched based on a complaint submitted by the civil society organization “Citizen Power Against Bribery, Corruption, and Waste.”
CIABOC said the probe centres on remarks or actions attributed to the two former MPs that may amount to contempt of the commission. Officials confirmed that the investigation began after the citizens’ group formally lodged its complaint.Director General of the Bribery Commission Ranga Dissanayake had earlier stated that Gunathilake and Gammanpila should have submitted evidence-backed petitions to the Judicial Service Commission if they wished to pursue allegations regarding his conduct. He said unfounded claims made in public were aimed at undermining public confidence in CIABOC.
Former MP Gunathilake recently accused Director General Dissanayake of being linked to the JVP Legal Committee, an allegation the Commission says has no substantiation.
