Doctors strike at Anuradhapura, Badulla hospitals over security concerns
Doctors at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital launched a strike this morning, citing serious concerns over their personal safety following the discovery of several empty bullet casings within the hospital premises earlier this week.
Doctors said the incident, which occurred three days ago, had heightened fears regarding security at the hospital. They stressed that the strike action would continue until adequate protection is provided.The strike caused significant inconvenience to patients who had arrived at the hospital seeking treatment, with routine services disrupted as a result of the protest.Meanwhile, a separate incident was reported at the Badulla Teaching Hospital, where a doctor was allegedly assaulted by a three-wheeler driver.
According to reports, the incident took place after the three-wheeler driver parked behind the doctor’s vehicle. When the doctor requested the driver to move the vehicle, an altercation ensued, during which the doctor was assaulted.The injured doctor was admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for treatment. Following the incident, doctors at the Badulla Hospital also launched a strike in protest, citing growing concerns over workplace safety.
Hospital sources said the strike at the Badulla Teaching Hospital is expected to continue until 4:00 p.m. today (17).
