Opposition seeks parliamentary probe into Ditwah preparedness
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and several MPs have submitted a proposal to the Speaker calling for a parliamentary select committee to investigate the government’s preparedness for Cyclone Ditwah.Describing the cyclone as the worst natural disaster in Sri Lanka’s history, the MPs said advance weather warnings were issued but adequate measures were not taken, resulting in preventable loss of life and property.
They requested a 30-member committee with representation from both government and opposition parties, including members from all 22 affected districts, to produce a comprehensive report on the failures surrounding the disaster.
