The government is considering introducing a tax on online betting activities once the sector is brought under a proper regulatory framework, Deputy Minister of Industries Chathuranga Abeysinghe has stated.He noted that a Bill to regulate Sri Lanka’s gambling industry, including the establishment of a regulatory authority, was introduced last year and that taxation would follow once the necessary rules are in place.The Deputy Minister also stated that the government plans to reduce indirect taxes on essential goods in the future.
