The government has proposed to provide a cash subsidy to certain demographics depending on Kerosene, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has said.
Justifying the Kerosene price hike, the minister has said, “Kerosene price revision was a must for many years. One main reason for CPC losses was selling at subsidized prices. With prices now on par with costs the Govt has proposed a direct cash subsidy to low income families, fisheries & plantation sectors that depend on kerosene.”
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation decided to increase the price of a litre of Kerosene by Rs. 253 with effect from midnight yesterday (21).
Accordingly, a litre of Kerosene which was previously priced at Rs. 87 is now Rs. 340.
