Several investigative agencies, including the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), have launched investigations into 10 sons of former ministers over allegations of bribery, corruption, and other irregularities.

Meanwhile, police are also reported to be investigating several sons of former ministers over alleged links to organised criminal gangs.

It is understood that the necessary measures have been taken to prevent the suspects from fleeing abroad.

So far, three sons of former ministers and other politicians have already been arrested in connection with various corruption allegations and alleged dealings with organised criminal groups.

The most recent arrest was that of Rakhitha Rajapaksa, the son of former Justice Minister Dr Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, over a bribery-related allegation.

Investigators have reportedly uncovered information suggesting that many ministers’ sons exploited their fathers’ political influence during previous governments to engage in various acts of corruption and malpractice.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is also reported to have gathered information indicating that, in certain cases, former ministers themselves directly assisted in the alleged offences.

Accordingly, statements are expected to be recorded from those former ministers as part of the ongoing investigations.

In addition, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) says investigations have also been launched into a number of relatives of former ministers who are facing various allegations of corruption.

Police say that a fault in the vehicle’s braking system caused the Sri Lanka Transport Board bus accident that occurred yesterday (22) near the Diyatalawa Railway Station.

According to police, the accident took place when the bus’s brakes failed while it was turning from the main road onto the access road leading to the railway station.

A total of 44 people sustained injuries in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at the Diyatalawa Base Hospital.

Police further stated that none of the injured are in a serious condition.

Five Killed in Road Accidents Over the Past 24 Hours

Meanwhile, police reported that five people were killed and a further 85 injured in road accidents recorded across the country during the past 24 hours.

One person died and two others were injured after the driver of a lorry lost control of the vehicle in the Kudawewa area on the Aralaganwila–Polonnaruwa road.

A 27-year-old man from Galnewa lost his life when a cab collided with a motorcycle near Rajina Junction on the Thambuttegama–Galnewa road.

A 58-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a lorry in the Mirahawatta area on the Welimada–Bandarawela road.

A 40-year-old man died and another person was injured when a motorcycle crashed into the trailer of a tractor that had been parked on a by-road in the Minuwangoda area.

Police also stated that a 50-year-old pedestrian was killed after being hit by a bus in the Molagoda area on the Colombo–Kandy road.

In addition, 38 people were injured when two buses collided in the Gandara–Talalla area, police added.

A video purportedly showing Mr Kottu owner Viraj Wickramanayake assaulting an employee is currently spreading rapidly across social media.

The footage appears to show him treating one of his employees in an inhumane and degrading manner.

The video allegedly shows the head of the establishment physically assaulting the employee and verbally abusing him with obscene language, claiming that none of the staff had achieved their sales targets.

Following the shocking incident, many social media users have expressed strong criticism and condemnation of his conduct.

It is also reported that the Maharagama Police Station has launched an investigation into the incident.
