Remand population falls by 5,000P
The Ministry of Justice says overcrowding in remand prisons has been significantly reduced due to the acceleration of the issuance of reports by the Government Analyst’s Department.According to ministry sources, the Government Analyst’s Department issued 17,506 reports during August and September alone.It is reported that most of these reports related to cases that had been backlogged since 2025.Meanwhile, the number of remand prisoners fell from 41,993 to 36,925 between 1 July and 30 September.
Accordingly, the remand population decreased by 5,068 during this period.
