The suspect was arrested by Kalmunai Police after video footage of the alleged assault was widely circulated on social media.A spokesperson for the Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC) Sri Lanka told Sri Lanka Mirror that Subramaniam is now in good health.

It is also reported that, by the time the veterinary examination was carried out, the dog had already travelled nearly 80 kilometres with the group taking part in the foot pilgrimage.The case has been fixed to be called again on 13 July.
