Red landslide warnings lifted; amber alerts extended
– Previously issued Level 3 (Red) landslide warnings have been lifted, while Level 2 (Amber) and Level 1 (Yellow) warnings have been extended in several districts after authorities reviewed current ground conditions and recent rainfall.
According to the National Building Research Institute, level 2 (Amber) landslide warnings, advising the public to remain cautious and vigilant, have been extended for 25 Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) in three districts.
In the Kandy District, the affected areas are Ganga Ihala Korale, Poojapitiya, Udapalatha, Kundasale, Gangawata Korale, Deltota, Medadumbara, Minipe, Panvila, Doluwa, Yatinuwara, Harispattuwa, Akurana, Pathadumbara, Thumpane, Pasbage Korala, Udanuwara, Ududumbara, Hatharaliyadda and Pathahewaheta Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas.
In the Kurunegala District, the Rideegama Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas remain under a Level 2 warning.
In the Nuwara Eliya District, Hangaraketha, Walapane, Mathurata and Nildandahinna Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas continue under Level 2 (Amber) warnings.Meanwhile, Level 1 (Yellow) landslide warnings, advising residents to remain watchful, have been extended to several Divisional Secretariat Divisions across multiple districts.In the Badulla District, Level 1 warnings apply to Uva Paranagama, Badulla, Hali Ela, Meegahakivula, Haldummulla, Kandeketiya, Passara, Soranathota, Ella, Welimada, Lunugala, Haputhale and Bandarawela Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas.
In the Kurunegala District, Mallawapitiya, Polgahawela, Mawathagama and Alawwa Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas are under watch.
In the Matale District, Naula, Pallepola, Ambanganga Korale, Yatawatta, Wilgamuwa, Laggala Pallegama, Ukuwela, Rattota and Matale Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas have been placed under Level 1 warnings.
In the Nuwara Eliya District, Kothmale East, Kothmale West, Ambagamuwa Korale, Norwood, Thalawakele and Nuwara Eliya Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas are also under Level 1 (Yellow) warnings.
